How Invisalign Protects Against Bullying

Having a complete set of teeth can boost one’s self-esteem, but not everyone is fortunate to have such a pleasant attribute. For people with overcrowded or wide-spaced teeth, however, the adolescent phase is the least pleasant stage of growing up.

Metal braces are effective solutions for misaligned teeth, but teens who do wear the application still end up earning cruel names, the most common of which is “metal mouth”, only further amplifying their ordeal. Adolescents are quite self-conscious and this bullying can have severe effects on their self-image, which they can take to heart until adulthood.

Confident Smiles: Teens Need Teeth Whitening, Too

A perfect set of teeth can boost a teen’s confidence. Parents looking to help their teens look and feel their best are turning to professional teeth whitening services—but this recent trend has raised concerns among the dental community. Teeth whitening in teenagers is a caution-filled process, and is ideally done when one is about 16 years of age for it to yield desirable results. Dentists recommend this age since most of an individual’s permanent teeth have developed and matured by then.

The Challenge of Tooth Reduction in Veneers

Tooth reduction is inevitable in regular veneers. While this is done for the veneers to fit well and look natural over real teeth, cosmetic dentists must also avoid grinding away too much enamel.

As the enamel protects the more sensitive dentin in the tooth, reduction is limited to just 0.5 to 0.8 mm. Any more than this can expose the dentin and cause hypersensitivity. Furthermore, porcelain veneers bond to the enamel better than the dentin, although dentin bonding agents have considerably improved over time.

Yellowing Teeth: Why You Need a Cosmetic Dentist

One of the things a person can be really proud of are his teeth, that is, if they are in excellent shape. Unfortunately, among the biggest dental problems millions of people from across the globe are facing are yellow or discolored teeth. This is caused by several factors like smoking, improper brushing, and the type of foods they frequently eat. Aging, genetics, and certain medicines also contribute to this problem.

Luckily, there are cosmetic dentists who can help turn the tide and restore the pearly whites you thought you have lost forever. There are several teeth whitening methods available today, though some offer superior results than others. One of the most notable is Deep Bleaching™, which is effective for people who have problems with other teeth whitening methods due to cetain oral issues.

There is also the bleaching procedure, which is normally done if the teeth can still be whitened to a level that is beyond their natural color. The choice of treatments essentially vary from patient to patient, depending on their requirements and, of course, on what the cosmetic dentist suggests. What matters is for you to be able to find a trusted practitioner who will carefully conduct a thorough evaluation of your teeth before proceeding with the treatments and solutions.

Using Veneers to Seal the Front Tooth Gap

If you watched the 1995 comedy film Houseguest, you may remember lead character Kevin Franklin (Sinbad) being introduced to a very attractive woman. The only downside was that the woman had a visible gap─ a diastema─ between her front teeth whenever she smiled. Such a problem can be fixed through orthodontic solutions, but if you cannot undergo the lengthy process, your cosmetic dental practitioner may help out with installing veneers, or pre-shaped porcelain shells.

Ever Wondered How Teeth Whiteners Came to Be?

Throughout much of history, people invented various ways to make their teeth whiter. Two of the most widely-used agents in teeth whitening today are hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide, but thousands of years ago people didn’t know about these.
The earliest teeth whiteners were, to say the least, abrasive or corrosive in nature.

A Quick Look at Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry has been gaining much popularity in the state of Pennsylvania, as in the rest of the country. After all, studies have shown that people put a lot of premium on good looks, equating these with youth and health; it's also believed that a perfectly healthy smile can go a long way to enhancing one's appearance. However, not everyone is gifted with a naturally perfect smile, and some have to deal with dental flaws due to genetics, improper oral hygiene, or accident. Cosmetic dentistry can correct many of these flaws and thus help people achieve the perfect smile they covet.

Recent advances in cosmetic dentistry have made various procedures in this field much safer and more effective than ever before. For example, the materials are now more natural in appearance and are far more durable and long-lasting than their predecessors, and in addition, cosmetic dentistry procedures are now generally done faster and more conveniently than before. One also has more procedural options to choose from to correct a not-so-good smile.

Hence, before you go for a cosmetic dentistry procedure, it would be best to study all your options and find out what you can expect from each one. Costs are often a major consideration in these procedures. Thus, you may benefit from learning about available financing options offered by various practices.
